Last night I went to get my haircut and I commented to my awesome hair stylist Juli, “I know when I should get a haircut: when no one has complimented me on my hair in a long, long time.” haha.
She responded: “Yes, if no one has complimented you on your hair in a month, it’s time to change something: cut, color, SOMETHING!”
I didn’t tell her that it had been MONTHS (plural) since someone had complimented me on my hair, but I thought that was a good rule of thumb. I have been growing my hair out for a while now – almost two years. I had visions of gorgeous blonde, curly locks in the summer as I frolicked on the beach… None of which came true and my long locks slowly became a nuisance rather than golden, flowy joy. But really, I thought I would get up every morning to wash, dry and curl my awesome hair. Sure, I would do that sometimes and I absolutely LOVED the results:
But how long did it take? Forever. Like 30 minutes of blow-drying and 40 minutes to curl all that hair. So in reality it would usually just end up looking like this:
I would dry the top bit and my bangs, and the bottom would be damp or still mostly wet because I didn’t want to spend 30 minutes drying my hair. I really love having great hair and have come to the realization that I’m just not cut out for long hair. I don’t have the patience for it. So? I’m back to medium length hair again:
She cut off six inches of hair… gross. That is so much hair. I hope I lost a few pounds! 🙂
So there you have it! If no one has complimented you on your hair in a month – or a few months! 🙂 – then it’s time to change something!
Hi Kristen – found you via BYW 2.0. Lucky you being featured – but your blog photo is wonderful…you deserve the praise!
I find that my hairdresser never wants to cut off as much as i want her too! I beg her – but she says “No – you look so much better with hair down to your shoulder.” Then – I wind up having to back to her sooner than I want to.
Love your new hairstyle!
Linda
