Yesterday I had quite the reflective moment. I bought these little TOMS when I was pregnant with Baby J in anticipation of meeting my sweet boy. My dear friend Leslie snapped that sweet pic of me holding them and now he’s a big boy crawling around in them.
I got him all dressed up in his sweet overalls and shoes to go to church. I love my church.
We arrived a few minutes late and walked in to see our children’s pastor. She said, “uh oh! Did you know you’ve lost a shoe!?” Somehow I had brought Jacob in with only one shoe on. She is amazing and offered to walk the parking lot to make sure it hadn’t dropped on our way in.
Then I found that his class was already full – we have a lot of babies at our church and you have to get there on time! But she quickly assigned another worker to come into his room so that I could go worship. She said to me something along the lines of, “Being a single mom is hard and you need all the help you can get.” I almost said, AMEN!! But instead, all I could muster as I was almost weepy was, “THANK YOU.”
I love our church. I feel loved at our church. I feel seen and taken care of and ministered to. It’s been such a place of rest and healing for my soul and God has met me in very powerful ways there. I find HOPE at our church.
I felt so loved, so taken care of by her and was able to freely worship knowing my boy was being loved on in the nursery.
And the service was powerful. Worship was powerful. Reading and proclaiming scripture out loud was powerful. My church streams the service live online and I created a highlight of the powerful moment I experienced yesterday in case it blesses you too.
Have you had a hard motherhood moment and then felt blessed when someone went out of their way to help? I’d love to hear from you!
